Forcefield

Like a shield, a forcefield creates an energy barrier that prevents the movement of matter. Unlike a shield, however, it does not permit movement in either direction, even at slow velocities. It can found, for example, on the landing deck of a carrier, where a series of forcefields are used to segregate the vacuum of space from the rest of the ship. These fields are then rotated to allow for starfighters and other vessels to take off and land.
