Ali Liu participated in Operation Menelaus as head navigator aboard Griffin. He was often trusted by Elliott Parks with standing in for him on the bridge when matters requiring the captain's attention took him away.

After returning from the ill-fated Operation Menelaus, Liu transferred from Griffin to another vessel for six months while the carrier underwent extensive repairs.

Liu returned to Griffin was navigator as soon as it was cleared for duty and acting as helmsman when the carrier was taken to Mythos. He was later placed in charge of the ship when Elliott Parks made his way to New Malaga, in search of the White Knights and the ATAFs.

Liu continued to serve aboard Griffin throughout the Pandoran war, being promoted to the rank of captain following the fallout of Black Widow.

During Black Widow, he was ordered by Parks to shoot down Phoenix, when the super carrier was boarded by Pandoran soldiers and Tracy Storm, the acting captain, was killed. Liu initially refused to cooperate with Parks' request, but did so upon being threatened with a court martial should he refuse.

In late 2624, Liu went with Parks' small fleet to the former Mitikas star systems. He took over command of Griffin for two days when Parks was confined to quarters by Samson Tunstall, due to stress and fatigue. Liu chose to take the fleet to Kethlan as scheduled, putting Dodds, Chaz and Enrique in the lead, as per Parks' recommendation.

Back in Sol, upon hearing that Parks was intending on hijacking Cratos, Liu and Weathers sneaked aboard a security shuttle and travelled from Griffin to the dreadnought. Liu acted as helmsman of Cratos during its time in the HD 21563010 system, taking the ship low in HD 21563010 Ab's atmosphere and fighting off the Pandoran fighters attacking it. He also assisted with removing the Leeches that were attached to the Elpis' Gift's hull.

Liu returned to serve as helmsman of Griffin for the final battle for the Solar System and assisted in the two year mop-up operation following the Pandoran War's conclusion, continuing to work alongside Weathers.
