Orbital Defence Platform

Orbital Defence Platforms (often abbreviated as ODP) are common long-range planetary weapons systems that guard against invaders. The vast majority of inhabited planets through the known galaxy make use of the systems as their second line of defence, after the navy. The platforms also serve as a secondary purpose of offering a great deterrent to would-be attackers.

The number of platforms in use varies from planet to planet, with those worlds of great importance to a nation being most heavily fortified. Even so, some secretive independent worlds possess a far greater concentration than those of the Mitikas Empire or the Helios Confederation.

Plasma accelerators are the most common armament, with standard plasma cannons, missiles and rockets being used as fall-back weapons.
